Sean Astin is an American actor, best known for his role as Samwise Gamgee in the The Lord of the Rings. He has been recognized for his performance in these films, both in his individual and ensemble performance, and has also received acclaim for other acting work, including roles in The Goonies and stranger Things.

Early Life: Astin was born on February 25, 1971 in Santa Monica, California. His mother, actress Patty Duke, was involved in relationships with both Desi Arnaz Jr. and Michael Tell at the time and wasn’t entirely sure who Astin’s father was. Tell offered to marry her while she was pregnant to avoid scandal, though their marriage only lasted 13 days and they split before Astin was born.
